I'm not saying that all of this is over, but this spring women are being offered an about turn with a slew of pretty, feminine and sexy daywear.

The style for this season will be way more colouful – bright shades are no longer a junior look but have evolved into a sophisticated form of dressing, with a true orange shade leading the way.

The most delightful look of this coming season is prints - geometrics, bubbles, dots and florals are all announcing our collective need for change in the fashion industry. It's a look that is making the ladies look and feel more fun and approachable after decades of “as long as it's black, it's OK.”

Think of the sleeveless turtleneck as the new seasonless fashion staple. This spring it crops up in all weights and fibres, from chunky cotton knit to fine-gauge nylon.

• For the “newcomer” to printwear, there is a more toned down look for this new spring style. Pair a vivid printwear blouse, shirt or T-shirt, with a pant or skirt in corresponding bright colour. An even safer approach is to try a small print top with a black or very neutral bottom. The soft new neutrals for this season are in very light lemon, green and blue. Of course the natural neutrals of cream, white, and grey are always in style.

Every few years, brown makes a comeback. And this spring, Ralph Lauren tells me, we'll be having some very “brown” moments. It's especially appealing in rich tan, and creamy beige leather. And chestnut is the ultimate.
