Executive Functions Compared to that of The United States

The power of the executive branch of any government is vested in the President of that nation. The president of the United States is granted a fair amount of power, but our government also revolves around an even distribution of power. Therefore, most governments of other countries place more of their power in the hands of the president, or the executive branch. One of these countries is Egypt. However, Egypt’s executive branch also shares many similarities with that of the United States.

The president of each nation has a list of specific duties to fulfill and also has to meet different requirements to serve as president. A president of the United States is elected every four years and cannot serve over two terms in office. In Egypt, the president is elected every six years and there is no limit on how many terms they may serve. In both the United States and Egypt, the president must be no younger than 35 years old and a citizen of their country from birth. The U.S. Constitution also stipulates that the president must have resided in the U.S. for 14 years. The president of the United States is elected by the citizens of the country in a nation-wide vote while the president of Egypt has to be nominated by Parliament and confir

Egypt and the United States also have local administrations to bring the executive branch closer to home for their citizens. The Arab Republic of Egypt is divided into administrative units to form local People’s Councils. The members are selected in direct elections and half must be farmers or workers to represent the lower to middle class citizens. The law provides for the gradual transfer of authority to the local People’s Councils. Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Councils are elected from among their members. In the United States, each state appoints a specific number of electors to serve in the Electoral College to choose presidential and vice presidential candidates.

In conclusion, the United States shares many similarities with the executive functions of Egypt. The presidents of each nation share many of the same duties, appoint cabinets and local administrations, and our bureaucracy’s are very similar. The only major difference within our executive branches is that our government runs on a system of checks and balances that keeps power evenly distributed.

The President of the Egyptian Republic and the cabinet constitute the executive authority. The President has the power to appoint and dismiss one or more vice presidents, the Prime Minister, ministers, deputy ministers, civil and military officials and diplomatic representatives. Egypt’s Cabinet has detailed rules and functions. The Cabinet exercises the functions of laying down the general policy of the State in collaboration with the President of the Republic and controlling its implementation in accordance with the laws and republican decrees, directing, co-coordinating and following up the work of the ministries and their different administrations as well as public organizations and institutions, issuing administrative and executive decisions in accordance with the laws and decrees and supervising their implementation, preparing draft laws and decrees, preparing the draft of the general budget of the State, preparing the draft of the State’s overall plan, contracting and granting loans in accordance with the rules of the Constitution, supervising the implementation of law, and maintaining State security and protecting the rights of the citizens and the interests of the State .
