After watching Good Eats, on television, it occurred to me what our society today is missing and why these shows are so popular. The world we live in today is so fast paced that many children are not in the kitchen peering over mommy’s shoulder anymore watching her put her special touches on the stew for dinner. The lessons learned in the kitchen are extinct, rather now the lesson taught is to make sure you have correct change to super size your meal. The cooking shows bring back an element of old time simplicity into the lives of possibly some of the busiest people in the world. They let people remember that cooking can be fun, and how good

a person can feel after they’ve just prepared a meal from scratch. The chefs on these shows bring the fun back into the kitchen, they make it exciting for you so that hours after the show has gone off you wander into your own kitchen looking at the shiny metal knives asking yourself whether or not you think you can whip up a four star dinner just like Julia. When you watch the chefs preparing food on these shows, they make what they are doing look like fun; they make it look simple for the common person. The experts make it look so easy that it leaves us wondering why we choose to spend our money at KFC’s and McDonalds’s of the world, when we can make a nutritious meal at home.

Giving the home cooking meal experience to my taste buds, and being able to sample a little of the calm aura that the cooking shows portray through the lens of the camera. During that hour of air time, while the food is being prepared, it seems as though life stops and nothing else matters except the food.
