Gulliver's Travels: Hatred of Mankind Hatred of man is the major theme throughout the satirical novel, Gulliver's Travels. The author, Jonathan Swift, used Gulliver's Travels to show his opinions on mankind. Throughout the novel, Swift uses Gulliver, the main character, as someone that he speaks through. In the novel, Gulliver is Shipwrecked on four different islands. On these different islands, swift uses creatures and their characteristics to satirise mankind. Jonathan Swift was born on November 30th in Dublin, Ireland. He was the second child, but the first son (Hunting 18). Swift did not have a good childhood due to the lack of a father and a mother figure. His father, Jonathan Swift,died seven months before Swift was born, (Kunitz and Haycraft 505). His mother, Abigail Crick, lift Swift with a nurse in Cumberland, Ireland after he was born (Kunitz and Haycraft 505}. Swift was cared for by the nurse until he Swifts education began after after he was sent to live with his uncle, Godwin Swiift, is Dublin, Ireland (Kunite and Haycraft 504). Though his uncle wasn't much of a father figure, he did care about Jonathan's education. His un
