Group Assignment

I selected to be in the 80’s to present group for several reasons. I was not in attendance the day we selected groups, which actually was an advantage to myself. It gave me an opportunity to choose a group based on the number of members already in the group and whether I liked those people and felt I could work well with them. I wanted a group with the fewest number of people. I have found in the past that working in large groups can be very stressful. Larger groups have a very hard time getting everyone together at the same time because of conflicting schedules and usually end up meeting late at night or on weekends and usually do not meet as a full group. Large groups also find that everyone has different ideas and many times people are determined to have things done their way. This leaves a lot of room for disagreement and sometimes more debating is done than working. Each member in a small group must do more work in order to complete an entire project, but the project is usually better. The group I chose only had two members before I joined and I knew I would be able to work well with them.

I also chose the modern day group because I felt that it would be the most interesting and be the easiest to find informati

Advertisers use many methods to lure consumers into buying their product. Their main two approaches are to get people on an emotional level or use fact. Many advertisements make people feel that they need a certain product to have a happy life. It is rare to see an advertisement in which someone is using a product and they are not happy. Characters in ads are typically young, good-looking individuals. These people are used to portray an image with the product. Viewers of the ads unconsciously feel that if they use the product, they will have the same happiness and beauty as the actors. Many other ads play on people’s insecurities by making them feel incomplete without a product. Another major way to entice consumers into buying an advertised product is to use fact. These facts usually pertain to the price of a product or its features. But, this method is usually combined with the former within an advertisement.

Companies spend billions of dollars annually to advertise their products. The advertising industry has grown rapidly and continues to expand. Large corporations employ hundreds of employees that concentrate solely on creating and placing advertisements. Advertising is a huge market and new advertising agencies pop up daily. A total of 440 billion dollars were spent in the year 2000 on advertising alone, and this number is expected to be higher in the following years. Companies rely on advertising to promote new or existing products and the money spent on advertising is usually worth the return.

Advertisers find new ways and places to promote their products everyday. Many years ago, advertising was not found outside of magazines, newspapers, billboards, and the radio. Today, advertisements can be found everywhere from the floor of grocery stores to up in the sky. A major factor in the increased number of advertising mediums is modern technology. Advertising has grown drastically due to the Internet, which has become huge in recent years. Nearly all companies have begun advertising on the Web because it allows them to reach a large number of people, although the effectiveness of Internet advertising has not been proven.
