Pip was part of the Gargery family after his parents died. He was brought up by hand by his sister, Mrs. Joe Gargery. Pip was very respectable as a child. Until he changed. As Pip grew up he was still very respectable. He only changed because of his expectations. Pip’s expectations were at first, to be a blacksmith like his brother-in-law, Joe Gargery. But it all soon changed. As Pip grew up in the Gargery household, he lived a very strict life. He was always told what to do and how to do. And for that, Mrs. Joe Gargery allowed Pip to live with her and her husband, Joe Gargery. Pip was already a nice, young man growing up. Pip knew his place in life was to be a blacksmith because that was his expectation, to be a blacksmith. Nothing more, other than to never disrespect Mrs. Joe. Mrs. Joe made sure Pip knew his place in life, she was well respected for bring Pip up by hand. Pip went from knowing his place in life to a gentleman, very respectable man, and then to nothing.
