Racial Objectivity

After the 911 attacks, the whole U.S. has been looking over their shoulder at anyone who might look suspicious; people have looked at their neighbors, their relatives, their priests, and even their best friends. It is true that the attacks did bring the nation as a whole closer together, but 911 completely killed people’s trust for other races. The following case is a prime example of how the U.S. has changed since the attacks.

The background on the story is that two people of Arab decent board an airplane, the pilot sees these people in their cloaks, and such, on one of the monitors of the passengers, and the pilot refuses to fly the plane until the two people are escorted off the plane. The plane finally takes off after a two-hour delay and the Arab people are taken off. That was the basic rundown of the event. Now, people can argue for or against the pilot’s decision not to fly the plane because of the two Arab passengers aboard.

In my opinion, the pilot had every, and has, every right to decide whether or not that plane leaves the ground. The number one reason why he had the right to that decision was be


have possibly endangered the rest of the passengers had they taken off and tried to fly the plane. There are a lot of things that could go wrong if a pilot is not focused on flying or if the pilot is nervous, and it would definitely benefit group minus two people to be safe than the whole plane being in danger.

To sum up the paper, the pilot had every right to refuse to fly the plane because of

cause he was the pilot, and nobody else on that plane is trained to fly the plane except for him, so if he did not want to take off, that plane was not going anywhere. The airline was left with two decisions, take the Arabs off and place them on another flight angry, or deal with a whole plane full of angry passengers just trying to get out the city.
