is one of the most respected and talented men in the music industry. Born to Rhonda Mack and Cornell Haynes Sr., Nelly had gone through several experiences that affected his life in an unusual way. Having a father in the Airforce, Nelly moved to Spain with his father for three years. At the age of three, he and his mother moved to Universal City in St. Louis. When he was seven years of age, Nelly's parents split up leaving him to bear the burden of heartache. As he grew older, he was bounced around from home to home bby family members so that he would stay out of trouble. Once he hit high school, Nelly befriended Murphy Lee, Kyuan, Ali, Slow Down, and City Spud to form a musical group known as the St, Lunatics. He was also an active athlete in highschool as he played baseball, basketball, and football. He had a promising in baseball in which he intended to go pro until he decided to pursue a career in the music industry. The first single that gave the blazing new group a start of fame was the smashing hit "Gimme what you got" that soared to the number one spot on St. Louis radio stations. The group made a home made video for the song in a local barber shop, but it never aired on television. During his struggle to rise to fame, Nelly became a father for the first time to a baby girl in which he received a dose of reality. He and the St. Lunatics went to every record label in hopes of showcasing their talent to the world but was heartbroken by refusals. The last company they went to, Universal Records, becam quite fond of the rythmic sounds of the group and gave them a contract. After several attempts, the group finally convinced Nelly to solo since it was easier to get one foot in the door instead of six. Nelly club banging hit, Country Grammar off the Country Grammar album. His fame and recongition soared off the charts. Now, Nelly is an unmarried father of two, Chanel Haynes and Cornell Haynes III.
