Well I guess this is my turn to explain why I don’t like English or even writing papers in general. But I’m going to have to pass because to me, writing is a form of expression, another one of the many outlets that human beings are capable of doing. Now granted I’ve had problems with English my whole life, but that doesn’t mean that I hate English. I just have a few bones to pick the English language. Like, what is a pronoun? What is a hanging participle? What is an improper indentation? These are minor evils, but I was never taught these things. When I write papers, it’s usually for a class. When I was a kid I always wrote small nothings, (what my mom and I called them when I was a little kid). I’ve never been sat down and told, this is a pronoun, and this is an adverb. I could always slide through each English class, barely putting in any effort, but passing the class. I remember in the fourth grade I wrote this paper about a war hero lost behind enemy lines with no means of food or water, and I loved this piece. I sent it to relatives, I worked so hard on it; when I turned it in, my teacher gave me a C and wanted to have a conference with my parents, the school counselor, and I, to talk about how grap
Lots of times children who don’t like to read are turned off by some traumatic time in their lives. However, I rack my brain and only a few minor times have I had reading as a punishment. Now writing on the other hand was a huge punishment in my school. Lots of times in class I would be turned around talking to friends when I would hear this smack of a ruler on my desk and I would turn around to see an embroidered shirt with red roses and a wool sweater giving me the look of death. I would proceed to use my best smile and say something like, “I was just asking him what problem we were on.” Did I remember that I was in History and we were discussing Ancient Egypt? No. So as punishment I would have to write 250 times “I will not talk in class while the whole class is participating in a discussion that I should be involved in.” Ouch, I knew I had to write it 250 times, and believe me I had to do this more than once before I learned my lesson. That lesson has stuck with me for a while, “You will hate writing for the rest of you life.” But this was only one class; when you add to that English, where I actually had to write, and science where I had to write even more because I blew up a beaker or used the Bunsen burner to melt a quarter. As a kid my mom would have me read one book a week, and if I wanted to I could read a book big enough to last a month. I loved to read, I loved to get a new book, sit down, and have the words roll off my sub-conscience t
