Different Characteristics in the Characters Names: Enders Ga
In the book Enders Game, the author Orson Scott Card creates characters that have names that symbolize their characteristics. In the story, the main characters try to survive their worlds by just being who they are. In this novel the story deals with being lost in war and not knowing what will happen, and who will end it. And though no one really knows, it is all just a game waiting to see who wins. The three main characters Ender, Peter, and Valentine all have names that symbolize each character in some way such as how they act, who they will become, and what they will do later on in life. Andrew Wiggin’s nickname, Ender, can symbolize many things. Ender having the word end in it could mean many things in the story. Everyone in the book talks about how Ender is going to end the war. Ender, though not knowing he does it, ends the “buggers” once and for all. Also in this story Card also mentions that being the third child is rare, unusual and hardly anyone is or has a third. Peter, another main character in the novel Ender’s Game, only acted the way he did because he was jealous of Ender. Peter is Ender’s older, unpleasant, and more powerful brother, who mostly everyone thought he was very uncivilized, and sickening. Peter resembled much like the Peter the Great who was a great and powerful leader, and scared most people by the way he had treated and acted towards every living thing on earth. In the book he also used the name Locke who was a famous philosopher. He used this name as a pseudonym to cover up his real name. He used this name because Locke was a secretary to another very powerful man who had his own view of the way the world should be. Another successful and powerful man Peter’s name characterizes is St. Peter Apostle from the bible. St Peter Apostle, Peter meaning rock, built a church which stood tall for what he believed in. Peter himself at the end of the novel, builds a new world government. He built it because he wanted to be in power and wanted to have things done the way he wanted them done. Peter was very strong, powerful, and successful, and could manipulate almost everyone if he wanted to. ves of many of his own people thinking it was only a game so there was not much he could actually do about it.
