To me Shakespearean sonnets are not the most interesting of all things probably because I can not understand or relate to them. But they still sometimes are fun to read because they are very descriptive and detailed, and they tell interesting stories. On a personal level these sonnets are touching because they are so passionate and describe an emotion so well, that it truly is stimulating to read only if you understand the content. I chose three sonnets that I felt were more interesting than other and that I could relate to them on a higher scale.
The first sonnet that I chose was Sonnet number 130. It is one of the most intriguing to examine. In Sonnet 130, the speaker describes the woman that he loves in extremely unflattering terms but claims that he truly loves her, which lends credibility to his claim because even though he does not find her attractive, he still declares his love for her. The last sonnet that I chose was Sonnet 57. The reason I chose this sonnet is because it depicts how (if not coincidently) a young man acts a slave to his lover. He spends all of his time on her, and while his buddies are out he is stuck with his lover but yet never complains. As said in line 13 of “Sonnet 57”… So true a fool is love that in your will”, shows that the author knows that he is loves fool. He sits there attending to all of his loves needs yet doesn’t seem to mind. Comical in my opinion, this sonnet in a way represents all of men. It is never the female who is “loves fool” as much as the man. In my perspective this sonnet was written for all the men who are in love and are more or less bound by the chains of love.
In conclusion, many people my age do not recognize or appreciate Shakespeare because of the style of writing or the prolonged stories. But what they do not realize is that the
