Today my friend's cat thinks I am one of its pack or family, but in the beginning, it was different. I meet my friend approximately five years ago on the internet. We corresponded for a short time. She was a Veterinary Technician and I was in the military at the time. I found out quickly that she loved animals (big surprise huh). I like animals also and we were fine the knowledge of each other's passions. She explained in her e-mails that she had a cat that she could not live without. Cool I thought I would like to meet the cat that she thinks so highly of. Finally, the day came when I did get to meet the cat. I am not a cat person and I hear you need to be one to own a cat. .
The first time I met this cat was at my friends-friends house where she was temporarily staying in the country above Placerville. After only a few strokes, he tried to bite me. I do not know if he was trying to hurt me or just trying to establish dominance. However, I knew this was not going to work. You see, I grew up in the south in an old house across the street from the intermediate level school that I attended. There was an old woman who lived next door to us that had what seemed to be a million cats. When it was feeding time, the cats literally came out of the woodwork. They came from everywhere. There were so many of them they almost covered the yard like a blanket. They were all different types and colors as well. White ones, black ones, mixed color and size from kittens to old tomcats that looked like small dogs. While they were eating, everything was fine. However, this was "the calm before the storm". After dinner the fights would start. Sometimes it was fun to watch and sometimes we instigated these fights. The worst of all of this cat activity was at night and during breeding season. In the summer, the activity was not so bad. In winter, the cats would look for places to get out of the cold and our house was the best place to do this or so they thought.
