Robert Philip Hanssen, born April 18, 1944 the only child of Howard and Vivian Hanssen. They called him Bobby. He grew up in Norwood Park on the western edge of Chicago. He went to Norwood Park Elementary School. He was considered different and had very few friends. He later went o William Howard Taft High School. One of his hobbies during High School was using his HAM radio. He graduated in 1962. After graduation he enrolled at Knox College, 200 miles southwest of Chicago.
