Leadership and Management
Describe the relationship between leadership and the other parts of management. How essential is leadership to the other components?Influence – The relationship between leadership and influence is one must have influence with people in order to lead. According to Maxwell this skill can be developed but al of currently lead on a level right now. All leaders have influence on different levels. There are five. Level one is a positional leader, which is a person whose influence is only by their title. Level two is permission, which is a leader who leads through developing relationships. Level 3 is leader that gets people together to accomplish a purpose. Level 4 is a leader whose influence is done through empowering others. Lastly level 5 is a leader who people follow because of who they are and what they represent. Priorities – A leader that is able to prioritize his schedule, workload and projects is a leader that makes good use of his time. This is a unique part of management because without it getting things done your goals are hindered. The way a leader prioritizes his day makes the difference between failure and success. If he spends too much time on the wrong thing many opportunities could be missed.
People – Ministry is about people, the Church is about people, and leadership is about people. Without people leaders are just taking a walk. As leaders people should be our main focus. Maxwell said, “People will become what the most important people in their lives think they will become. So as leaders we need to act like we are the most important person in our follower’s lives and encourage them allow participation, give recognition, and set clear expectations for them. Leadership is essential to all of these other components because it allows the person to be a healthy well-balanced Christian leader. Leaders need much more than the ability to lead. There are several parts of management that need to accompany a good leader. I would say leadership is essential to all the components Maxwell has mentioned in this book. Vision – The bible says without a vision the people perish. This is true especially for leaders. Leaders have to have a vision. If there no vision leaders cast off restraints. They fall, perish, and don’t last long. Leadership is directly related to vision. Vision starts the whole process of leadership off. The great news is if God called you to be a leader he will give you a vision. He may not give it to you right away or show you the whole thing but he will give you one.
