Seven Deadly Sins
The deadly sins have been around since the time of the Greek civilation. The deadly sins were brought into life by a Greek monastic theologian, named Evagrius of Pontus. In fact, there were originally eight sins first thougt up by Evagrius. They were, in order of increasing seriouness: gluttony, lust, avarice, sadness, anger, acedia, vinglory, and pride. Later in time, in the late sixth century, Pope Gregory the Great, reduced the list to seven sins transforming vinglory into pride and acedia into sadness and finnaly adding envy. Pope Gregory the Great listed the sins as follows: Pride, Envy, Anger, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, and Lust. Is the human race guilty of theses seven deadly sins? The answer is an astounding yes we do commit theses sins on a daily bases. With much knowledge and a lot of recources the concept of the seven deadly sins can be asseced and found. Questions are often asked why were theses sins created or what are they for or what is the concept of thes seven deadly sins. The human race has always been self- indulging, shiftless, and immoral. But since the dawn of man kind, man has struggled to find a conceptual system to operationalize their spirtual shortcomings. We needed some rules to follow for gui
Depending on who is asked weather the seven deadly sins come from the bible or from another source, many different answers are brought forward. One answer heard is that they are from the mouth of Jesus. This is not a common answer though. If looked up it is found not to be true. Another good answer is that this is all from the Catholic Church and not from the word of God, the Bible. This is probably due to the fact that Pope Gregory the Great revised them. But in actually he just shortened the eight deadly sins to only seven. This was due to his findings in the Bible. Which he believed to be true? Another answer is that yes they are in the Bible does contain the seven deadly sins but is spread thought the Bible. It is not contained in a few passages, which brings me to the last answer. The seven deadly sins are contained in Matthew’s Gospel (chapters 5 through 7) but they are not in simple list there. I do believe though that theses sins are in the Bible, and from my readings I do believe all the sins are through the bible. Yes I do believe that most of the sins are contained in Matthew’s Gospel (chapters 5 through 7). The bible does explain in detail about the sins that should not be committed. There are seven deadly sins which are Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed, and Sloth. They are also in order from least bad to worst. The sins however do not go unnoticed. They also have a specific kind of punishment. Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, which interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.
