What Community Leadership Means To Me
Lance Secretan once said, "Leadership is not so much about techniques and methods as it is about opening the heart. Leadership is about inspiration-of oneself and others. Great leadership is about human experiences, not processes. Leadership is not a formula or a program, it is a human activity that comes from the heart and considers the hearts of others. It is an attitude, not a routine. To me, community leadership is contributing what we can. I have learned that everyone can be a leader in their own way by sharing goals with a community.
Community leadership comes first from the heart. If you are willing or want to help in your community, it has to be done with an open heart. Community leadership is feeling good about yourself and others. Many people feel that you have to be a celebrity or have money to be a community leader or help out in community leadership. The truth is that you and I are community leaders who can demonstrate such leadership.

I have learned from many experiences that once you start a trail, others will follow the journey. It was in November 2003 when my heart got broken. While listening to the radio, I heard a story of how many children go to bed at night without eating. I thought of all the homeless that live in my community and have to search through garbage for their food. Since it was near Thanksgiving, I felt that I could help out in my community by making a Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless. I brought up the idea to my church youth group and they all felt that it was a good idea. With the help of my youth group, we were able to prepare over 50 Thanksgiving dinners to give out to the homeless in my community.
