Immigration Experiences

The United States is known as immigrant country. Many people came from all over the world for many reasons, such as religious persecution, economic difficulties, and racial tension, but the largest reason for coming to America was for freedom. The freedom to live where they can get better education, rising social status, increasing income, and nice future, they migrated to the United State. Most immigrants are from East Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia. Migration was prominent among Asian people around 1800, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Philippine, Vietnamese and other ethnic groups. Some came here as refugees as they had no place to go. Although they came with a big hope, their lives have been struggling with sadness, dissatisfaction, tiredness and other obstacles. They scarify their lives for their family and countries.

Burmese people are one of the migration people among other ethnic groups. My friend, Kyaw Kyaw is one of the immigrants who came to the United States. He left from Myanmar where is a country in South East Asia. Myanmar formerly called Burma was very beautiful and rich in natural resources before 1970. Although immigrant people’s lives are very hard, they can do everything like native people. Most of the successful businessmen are immigrants and they have strange abilities to compete with native people. They have ambition to benefit from astounding achievements in education, rising occupational statuses, increasing income. They are stress resistant people and problem free in mental. In spite of Asian American immigrant are also discriminated against and had not achieved equality with whites, they never give up their lives. Their influence on American institution and culture will expand largely because of their high average educational levels and increasing interaction with non- Asian. I hope that the rest of immigrant people will try their best like former people.

Fortunately his wife got the job in a company as an accountant. Their lives became better, and they owned the house, car and other properties. Now he said his life was stable as he expected. His daughter graduated from UC Berkley and with her own job. As she understands very well that her parents faced with many difficulties and raised her hardly, she always obeys to her parents and work hard like her parents. Ko Kyaw Kyaw’s life is now very peaceful and he doesn’t need to worry about his living like before. He is very healthy and usually busy with his small plants in his back yard and his wife does, too.
