Immortal Technique, an underground rapper, who uses hardcore lyrics with hard-hitting bass. He is a one-man group, unheard of in today’s urban music world. This new breath of fresh air, was born in a military camp in South America, and came to the United States during the 1980’s while civil war was breaking out in his native Peru. His family came to the United States to escape the culturally devastating inflation and poverty. He moved to Harlem, which had its own share of drama. Technique, has been writing rhymes and free styling since he was nine years old. He currently, is enrolled at Penn State studying Political Science Rarely, do you come across a rapper, who uses lyrical ability as a method to convey an underlining message with both concrete conceptual strength and cemented arguments about society, politics, and racial issues. Immortal Technique is the complete opposite of what is shown on MTV, (money, sex, and the deterioration of the mind)
The album “Revolutionary Vol.2”, his second album, debuted on November 18, 2003. The album consists of 18 tracks. Immortal Technique’s hoodlum mentality is stronger, than any other underground rapper, literally speaking... He refers to biblical passages constantly throughout his tracks, showing the listener he is religious. The album is one hundred percent political, what is astonishing; he makes it interesting without boring the listener. In the first track “The Point of No Return”, he severely castigates the society we live in, using very descriptive words. In track two “Peruvian Cocaine”, he describes the typical life on a Bolivian border farm. He plays a worker, working on the fields, sending drugs to a country, which both accepts and blocks it. “Harlem Streets” is definitely a hard-hitter.
