Saving private ryan
Comparing the d-day landings in "saving Private Ryan"In this essay I will be comparing the opening scene in saving Private Ryan which is the D-Day landing and the D-Day landing in the longest day. On June 6th 1964, the allied invasion of France marked the beginning of the end of nazi domination over Europe. The attack involved 3,000,000 men 11000 planes and 4000 ships, comprising the largest armada the world has ever seen. When the allies landed on Omaha the Nazis were waiting for them. As saving Private Ryan was made in 1998 and the longest day was made in 1962 and renewed in 1990 saving Private Ryan have stars such as Tom Hanks, Matt Damon and Vin Diesel. The longest day does not have any stars that I know of. Saving Private Ryan is the winner of five awards including best director. This film also won Oscars which are, best picture of the year and best director. Saving Private Ryan also won golden globes for best picture and best director. Other awards were produces guild of America and ten nominations from the British academy film awards. The longest day was the big film of the time. I don’t think the film had any big stars because stardom wasn’t a
In Saving Private Ryan as soon as you hear the landing craft approaching the shore you hear shelling and machine gun fire coming from all angles. It is the total opposite in the longest day as it is not so dramatic. This is because in the longest day the blood is shown in black and white. In conclusion to this I think that the Saving Private Ryan clip was the best by a long way because of the technology used which makes it much more dramatic and has a lot more action in it. Therefor Saving Private Ryan is much more realistic, But I am sure that The Longest Day was quite realistic for its era because of the lack of technology availible in those days. I think that both clips are reasonably good for the times that they were made. Both of the films got awards, from my point of view I don’t think the longest day deserved an award. In saving Private Ryan the close up shots are much better because they show the fear on the men's faces and shows greater detail because of different colours. The close up shots in saving private Ryan are also good for making you feel as if you are a part of the
