After she had her birth with him, they has moved back to Ted’s grandparents in Philadelphia. While growing up there, his was taught that his mother was actually his sister, and that his grandparents were his parents. They did this in order to protect his mother from harsh criticism and prejudice of being an unwed mother,

At the age of four, him and his mother moved to Tacoma, Washington, with some relatives. It was there where his mother had fallen in love with a military cook named Johnnie Culpepper Bundy, In May 1951, his mother married the cook, and Ted had then assumed his stepfather’s last name, and had gotten the name Ted Bundy. During the marriage, they had more children, and Ted found himself babysitting many days after school. In school, he was terrible shy and uncomfortable in many social situations. It wasn’t until November 8, 1974, when the investigators got there first break in the case. “That Friday evening, a strange but handsome man in a book store at a Utah mall approached eighteen-year old Carol DaRonch. The stranger told her that he had seen someone trying to freak into her car and asked her to go along with him to the parking lot to see if anything had been stolen. Carol thought that the man must have been a mall security guard because he seemed so in control of the situation. When they arrived at the car, she checked it an informed the man everything was there. The man, who identified himself as Office Roseland, was not satisfied and wanted to escort her to police headquarters. He wanted her to ID the supposed criminal and file a complaint. When he led her to a VW bug, she became suspicious and asked for identification. He quickly showed her a gold badge and then escorted her into the car. He drove off quickly in the opposite direction of the police station, and after a short while, he suddenly stopped the car. The ‘police officer’ suddenly grabbed her and tried to put handcuffs on her. DaRonch screamed for her life. When she screamed, the man pulled out a handgun and threatened to kill her if she didn’t stop. DaRonch found herself falling out of the car and then suddenly pushed up against the side of it by the madman. He had a crowbar in his hand and was ready to hit her in the head. She kicked him in the genitals, and managed to get free, ran towards the road, and caught the attention of a couple driving by got in and went to the police.” The police went to the crime scene and gathered evidence. Got a type O blood from her coat which is the same as Bundy’s.

Officer David Lee was patrolling an area in West Pensacola when he saw the VW, and knew the cars of the area, so decided to run a check. The VW was stolen, and Bundy once again gave chase to the police. Bundy was finally caught.

He has met his first girl, who is unnamed, who was beautiful and a highly sophisticated woman from a rich Californian family. Ted was shocked that he could get a woman of such high class. She was Ted’s first love and believed to be possibly his first sexual encounter with. But, she was not as interested in Ted and Ted was interested in her. She liked him a lot, but didn’t see any long goals coming out of him. Ted tried really hard to impress her, lying very often, which she hated a lot. In 1968 when his girlfriend graduated from the college, she broke everything off with Ted; she realized that Ted has some serious character flaws that took him out of the running as “husband material”. Ted has never recovered from the break-up. Nothing interested him anymore that has before, even school. He seemed to be in a depressed state of mind, and tried writing to her all the time trying to get things back together, not able to her out of his mind. This would be and obsession that would span his lifetime and possibly changing his mind towards what he thought about women.

In April 1977, Bundy was transferred to Garfield County Jail in Colorado, to await trial for Caryn Campbell. He became his own lawyer, and was granted permission to leave the jail to use the courthouse library. He escaped on June 7, on the way too the library, and had no handcuffs or leg irons on. It was an escaped that was planned by Bundy. He lived food stolen from local cabins and stayed in abandoned cabins. But he couldn’t hide there forever because they were a manhunt on him. He found a car with keys in it and tried to get out of Aspen, got stopped by police, and captured again.

Over the months of Bundy’s arrest, investigators found critical evidence to use against Bundy. The white van stolen had three eyewitnesses claiming Bundy was driving it. Test revealed Kimberly Leach’s blood in the can and semen on her underwear. He was then charged with their murders in July 31, 1978. He was then soon
