Characters
Ann is a round character and the protagonist of the story, "The Painted Door". She is also a dynamic character because she experiences a change of heart when she realizes that John is the man for her. She realizes this after spending the night and sleeping with Steven. Once the guilt set in, Ann wanted to do anything to make up for her mistake. In thebeginning of the story, Ann tries to do anything to keep her mind off of her marital problems such as painting the house. Later on at the end of the story, she cannot rest until she has made her amends with John. But it was a little too late! I think that Ann is a very self-centered character inthe story as well. I feel this way because she feels so highly about herself that she criticizes John in everything that he does. John is a flat/static character of the story, "The Painted Door". John is characterized as this because he is built around one single idea. This idea is that John is nothing but a hard workingman. John is a simple farmer who feels that he can help and keep his marriage alive by working hard all day to earn money for Ann. But this is the very opposite of what Ann wants. Ann would prefer that John would stay home and spend more
