Big brother, The Hot house, Newlyweds, The Simple like, Survivor, Australian Idol and The Resort, these are just some of the countless reality television shows that bombard our lives. In all honesty these shows are awful. They lack talent and originality. At first they were captivating and somewhat addictive with the beginning of Big Brother 1. Four years later we are still staring at the same Big Brother house, merely watching everyday life which has been crammed in with various cheap, unrealistic dramas.
None of the shows hold any positive social value or contribute to the improvement of our society in any way. In many cases they show conflict, win-lose scenarios, betrayal, stealing, cheating, jealousy and many more immorally wrong way of life. On one network, contestants are
eating live cockroaches on Fear Factor. Another station features a man on Survivor lying about his grandmother's death in order to boost his chances of winning $1 million. Click the remote again and see the utterly rich Paris Hilton living for a month on a farm in rural Arkansas, in a show called The Simple Life. These shows ratings, are defeating our respected and educational news shows like 60 Minutes, quality dramas like Secret Life of Us, and popular comedies like Friends.
The worst thing about these shows is that reality television has not only arrived, it has taken over television. There are at least a dozen different reality TV shows, destroying diversity. Suddenly we have more of these shows than documentary’s, dramas and comedies. We rather watch stereo types people who are just on television for gain
