Alcohol is a dangerous drug and is harmful for your body and health. This is because people have abused alcohol. Alcohol can cause brain damage or an early death. People can drink excessively and irresponsibly. Stress, mood, peer pressure, etc are some reasons why people start to drink. Alcohol is used more as a mood-changing drug than food or non-alcoholic beverages that are served as a part of social custom or religious ritual. At first, the alcoholic may express a high tolerance to alcohol; he or she may consume more and show fewer effects than people that drink occasionally. Drinkers who fail to take care of nutritional and other physical needs during extended periods of excessive drinking may make matters worse than they already are. According to Gladys Folkers and Jeanne Engelmann: Alcohol is the most destructive drug among teens who use drugs because it’s the drug teens use first,
In our society people are influenced to drink, whether it is peer pressure or not. Many teens go to parties late at night and get drunk and decide that they can drive home. There may be other people in the car that are put into danger. The danger to other cars and people on the road is very great, and people (teenagers) that are drunk, don’t think about that. When a person is drunk, their reaction time is much slower. Dr. Stevens said, “It was our aim to reach the young people of this nation with the goal of helping to significantly cut down on debilitating accidents which occur as the result of teenagers drinking and driving. It then became our goal to aid Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and other organizations to raise the legal drinking age to twenty one.” It is up to us to decide whether or not we drive or get in a car while we under the influence of alcohol.
