Global competitiveness and productivity in Indian business
“Competitiveness” and “Productivity” are twin issues that will determine whether India as a nation, can rise high in the polity of nations in Asia and the rest of the world. These two aspects are not independent from each other. In fact, these two are closely linked and must be addressed simultaneously. Basically, It is combination of productivity, innovation coupled with competitiveness of an organization which determines performance of an organization.
Massive changes have taken place in the global economic environment in the past 50 years and more so particularly in the last decade. Today we see that world is increasingly getting networked, fast paced and is being driven by the need to outperform at all levels. Failure to do so entails high cost. In such a world, the ability to be competitive and productive cannot be over emphasized. It is simply too easy today to fall behind; and that much harder to catch up.
Both corporations as well as policy makers are now increasingly emphasizing the imperatives of national competitiveness as well as productivity. By national competitiveness, I mean putting in proper place all the conditions, both macro economic and micro economic that will strengthen the grow
Our measurement should not be against the standard of past. This attitude of not benchmarking the best in the world and feeling contended with measuring against our own standards of past also need a change. We must look at vision of future for growth.
We must clearly understand what Globalization means? It means sourcing capital from where it is cheapest, manufacturing where it is most cost effective and selling where it is most profitable.
