Why the wolves should be reintroduced to the adirondack mnts

Many people know the Adirondack Mountains to be a very beautiful place in North-Eastern America. Looking past its bueaty, the Adirondack Mountains are still considered to be wild, and the animals in that whole park are in no way domesticated. That is why it is such a big attraction to tourism in North America because it is full of Nature. Over the past 100 years the Adirondack Mountains have been without their number one predator, so the question is sometimes brought up about “how can the Adirondack Mountains be considered wild when we, the people, took out the main predator.” Over the past 10 years, scientists have been doing research and they have come out that the future of the wild life in the Adirondack Mountains is at risk to having problems. It is thought that without the wolves to regulate the deer population, the deer population is going to greatly increase. The scientist are not sure if there is going to be enough resources for all the deer to eat and survive. With the wolves taking out the week deer and not the healthy deer, it will leave the strong to survive. Also the coyote population would be expected to drop because they would also be taken out by the wolves when they cant get a hold of deer, and if ther

Focusing on why we shouldn’t bring the wolves back, a big thing people say is that wolves are dangerous to people, that having the wolves in the area could be a direct threat to there children. Well that’s not true, in the past 500 plus years there has only been one case when a wolf killed a person in North America. The wolf that killed that one person was rabit, and the wolves that we would be releasing will be vaccinated against rabies. So in 500 plus years there has been no deaths caused by a healthy wolf. Hunters are really against bringing the wolves back because they don’t want the wolves taking out there animals to hunt. There have been 66 recorded deaths in the past 10 years due to hunting accidents. It’s safer to have the wolves then it is to go hunting. Also people are concerned about their livestock being killed by wolves. I don’t understand the problem, there is going to be an insurance plan set up to pay for the losses if it can be proved to be done by a wolf. It is said that wolves should not be brought back to the Adirondacks because the deer suffer when the wolf kills them. So the ignore the fact that a deer that dies from starving in the winter isn’t suffering, and the ignore the thought of what it much be like to get shot, how about getting shot and not dieing right away, deer get shot and live for a couple days and die horribly. I don’t see hunting being banned anywhere, wolves killing deer is for their own survival and that’s nature and sometimes nature is just cruel.

"Wolves are good business," said Michael Phillips, a National Parks Service biologist involved with reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone National Park, which has seen visitors flock since the program began. Farmers in upstate New York, though, say coyotes are enough of a problem already, preying on young calves and other livestock. "The wolves would be more of a concern because they hunt in packs and they would travel a larger area," said Lee Hutchins, who runs a dairy farm on the northwest edge of the 5.4-million-acre Adirondack Park. "We'd be pretty defenseless in controlling animal loss." Hundreds of scientists, advocates and wolf enthusiasts are discussing a proposal to reintroduce wolves to the Adirondacks this weekend at a three-day conference organized by the Defenders of Wildlife's "Wolves of America." The state Department of Environmental Conservation hasn't taken a position on the issue, preferring to wait for feasibility studies on whether the idea makes ecological sense. Roger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife, said the wolf is the only thing lacking from the Adirondacks' circle of life. The deer and beaver populations have risen dramatically, he said, because the region has been without wolves since the last “canis lupis” in New York was shot at the end of the 19th century. "The Adirondacks is a very good place to relocate the Eastern timber wolf," he said. The big question, said Walter Medwid, a wolfadvocate from Minnesota, is: "Doe
