The Transuranium elements

The Transuranium element Neptunium, its symbol is Np. Neptunium has an atomic number of 93 and an atomic weight of 237amu. Neptunium is also known as poseidonium. Neptunium was the first man-made transuranium element of the actinide group. Neptunium was discovered by Abelson and McMillan in 1940. It was named after the planet neptune. Neptunium has no uses. Neptunium has a silvery appearance and exists in three known structural modifications. Its half life is 2.14 • 106 years.

Plutonium is a Transuranium element, the second to be discovered. It has the symbol Pu and the atomic number is 94, its atomic weight is 244amu. Plutonium is a member of the Actinide group. It was discovered in 1941 by Seaborg and McMillan. It was named after the planet Pluto, since it was discovered after Neptunium. Pluto is the next planet out after Neptune. Plutonium is slivery white, and is clasified as a Metallic. Plutonium becomes yellow when exposed to oxygen. If you were to touch a piece of Plutonium it would be warm. The bigger the piece the hotter it is, Large pieces of Plutonium can boil water.

Plutonium has some good and bad uses, Plutonium is an important part of nucleur weapons. One kilogram of Plutonium completely discharged makes an e

Rutherfordium is a Transuranium element that has the symbol Rf and atomic number 104. This is a highly radioactive man-made element whose most stable isotope’s half life is less than 70 seconds. This element can’t be used for anything and little is known about it. Rutherfordium is the first transactinide element and it is predicted to have chemical properties similar to hafnium.

Nobelium is a transuranium element, with the symbol No and atomic number of 102 and an atomic weight of 259amu. Nobelium is in the acrinide group. Its color is unknown but probably is grey. In 1958, Ghiorso, Sikkeland, Walton, and Seaborg accidently discovered Nobelium at UC Berkeley. It is named after Alfred Nobel, the discoverer of dynamite. Nobelium has no uses yet, the uses haven’t been discovered yet because the element is not been in the solid form yet.

Americium was the fourth Transuranium element, its symbol is Am. Americium’s atomic number is 95 and its atomic wieght is 243amu. It is in the actinid group. It was suposidly named after America, by analogy. Americium is white and silvery more than Plutonium an Neptunium. In 1944, Seaborg, Morgan, and Ghiorso discovered Americium. Americium is radioactive and can be harmful to a persons health. Americium can be used as a radioactive glass and is used in some smoke detectors.

Curium is the third Transuranium element its symbol is Cm. Curium’s atom number is 96 and its atomic wieght is 247amu. Curium is named after Pierre and Marie Curie. In 1944 Seaborg, James, and Ghiorso discovered Curium. Today there are fourteen isotopes known of Curium. The most stable isotope of Curium has a half life of sixteen millions years. Curium is radioactive and is very harmful if absorbed into t
