Equality is something that many races, ethnic groups, religious factions and simply “different people” have strived for since anyone can remember. Even specific genders have desired to be treated equally. Women of all races have struggled for numerous years for equality. Both married and single women have problems with achieving the equivalence they have wanted for years. The increasing amount of women in the work force does not stop at only those married women. The number also includes those of different races and ethnicities. Those of African American, White American, and Latino decent have all had to struggle with the same problems.
Although this is the case, the gender pay gap is slowly closing. The data prove the fact that women are gradually closing the gap of how much is made yearly. The past thirty-five years has shown the most dramatic increase. In 1965 women only made 58% of the income that men did. There has been a steady increase of the percentage since that time. This increase has resulted in a 24% difference between yearly wages of men and women. Females now make 76% of what men do. The average male makes $36,304 a year, while the average woman makes $26,500. If this trend continues at its current pace, women will soon be earning an equal amount as men.
