High School

My extracurricular activities during my time in high school have made the most impact on my road to success. They have made an extraordinary impact on my life. They have taught me three very important skills for succeeding in life: teamwork, a hard work ethic, and communication. Without my extracurricular activities, I may not have these skills today and therefore may not be in a position to contribute them to a college today.
My freshman year, I began to play football. I learned valuable team work skills right from the beginning. I learned that to win and be successful, everyone has a role. No matter how big or small it may be, every role is still important in the aspect of succeeding. Even in my senior year of football, I still made sacrifices for the team to succeed. I knew how to be a team player and I fully knew the meaning of the phrase "take one for the team", so that everyone could succeed.
My sophomore year I went out for the wrestling team. In that hot and damp room, I learned a hard-driving work ethic, a drive inside of me to get a task done to the absolute best of my ability. You would sweat and sometimes even throw up because you were pushing yourself so hard. In football, you could make a mistake because your teammates could cover for you. Now in wrestling, there was no team. All you had was how hard you worked to make yourself better. Sure, there was a team score in a match, but all you really wanted to do was win your own match. There on the wrestling mats, I learned how to work as hard as possible to succeed.
My sophomore year I also began to help coach the middle school wrestlers. I would assist our head coach in showing moves to the middle school kids. Walking around and talking to the kids helped me learn valuable people skills. I had to adapt to how their friends and themselves would talk amongst themselves. Sometimes, parents would come in and watch their kids wrestle.
