Atomic bomb

On October 11, 1939 a letter was given to President Franklin Roosevelt from Germanys physicists Szilard and Einstein. They informed him that nazi Germany was undergoing massive research into the refinement of uranium, and that it was intended for use in an atomic bomb. .
So shortly after receiving the letter the president-started research of they're own and named it the Manhattan project. The project was headed by: Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer and Albert Einstein. Both were German scientists and mathematician. The research and testing took place in central Tennessee, on Black Oak Ridge witch is now the leading center for research and production in the fields of nuclear energy and environmental management. This three year long endeavor stated in 1939 and ended in 1943 with much success. We were able to beet the Germans in the refinement and explosive of uranium. Which would prove a great weapon for aiding the war. .
Now that the atomic bomb had bean accomplished the government sought to use it as a weapon to aid and maybe end World War 2. But we were still not sure if the bomb would be a massive dud or a large explosive. Many scientists did not think that it was capable of producing the enormous explosion that it did. But many more thought that it would, and in fact they thought it might even destroy the world by igniting the atmosphere. But no matter what, the government was not going to have their new 2 billion dollar weapon sit in a garage. So on September 17, 1942 the bomb was tested at Los Alamos New Mexico. The bomb was set on top a large steel tower and viewed by Leslie Richard Groves and Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer as it was detonated. All that was left at ground zero was green radioactive glass made by the tremendous heat of the bomb. .
Shortly after the completion and testing of the atomic bomb the army and military leadership discussed were they were going to use the new weapon.
