Social Stratification

The simplest of all kinds of societies live by hunting and gathering, the use of simple tools to hunt animals and gather vegetation. Hunting and gathering societies are built on close relationship like marriage or siblings. The families in this type of society obtain the food and then make sure every member has their share. Another different thing that people might do is this type of society is to also teach the children on their own. Everyone’s lifestyle is very similar and is basically centered on getting the next meal. Each group of people, children, men, and women all had their own roles and both sexes were viewed as having about the same social importance. I think one good thing about this type of society is that these societies have few formal leaders like we have today like the president of the United States. In this type of society if there was a president he would not get any additional benefits and would have to work just as hard as everyone else. There was little social inequality during the days of hunting and gathering societies and was much more family centered than in today’s society.

Post industrialism refers to the technology that supports an information-based economy. Postindustrial production is based on c

I think that in the hunting and gathering societies, there was less inequality because everyone worked as a team striving to survive and to make everything work together. The groups were smaller, which makes it easier to work together, but they still found a way to make everything work out all right and for everyone to hold equal rankings and no one was better than anyone else because that is not what life was based on. Today, in post industrial societies, it seems that it is almost a fight with each other to constantly be viewed as better than another person or to belong to a certain group because it is better then something else. I honestly think that is we all worked together as a team, the inequality would decrease and everyone would have a better chance to thrive in today’s society. One example that would decrease is the poverty level in this society because money would not be as big of a deal as it has been betrayed today. Everyone in society has put money as a way of power and privilege. The way society looks at things is; if you have more money then someone else then you has more privileges like driving a new car or living in a bigger home. In turn; if you have that; then you is a better person in society and right there that is where the inequality starts from.
