Ben johnson
Born June 11, Ben Jonson was raised in a little town of Westminster, New England. He was mostly raised by his mother because his father died three days before Ben’s birth. His mother then remarried a bricklayer, three years later. When Jonson was old enough to go to school, he attended Westminster School. Before he was able to graduate, Ben’s teacher sent him to the University of Cambridge. He majored as an English dramatist, and an actor. Then later became noticed for his tragedy poems. He graduated from college with a degree in acting. In 1592, Jonson married Celia, daughter of his stepfather’s boss. They had three children, whom all of them died. Mary, their first child, died when she was six months old. Then their son, Benjamin, died of plague when he was ten years old. Af
His quote, which he wrote in honor of his wife, Celia was: “Drink to me with thine eyes, and I will pledge with mine; or leave a kiss but in the cup, and I will not look for wine.”(www.benjonsonbiographyandworks.com.) It caused a great disturbance to William Shakespeare and Jonson was criticized for being inferior in poetic power to Shakespeare. Jonson did not want to face his family so he moved to St. Martins Lane to pursue his career in acting. He lived with Lord Admiral at the Lord Admiral’s Acting Company. Admiral had Ben act in various plays and movies. In 1598, Ben killed an actor and was sent to prison. He escaped a year later. In 1601, he wrote a play for Admiral and was noticed for one of the “best for tragedy.” Jonson then joined other poets welcoming the reign
