Foreign essay

             The article entitled Proposal Would Bar Food Exported by Some Nations and the chart entitled More Food, and Some Food Poisons both emphasize implications about imported food as well as the effects they have on foreign trade. Cases have been reported that a plethora of people are getting sick due the unknown and dangerous pathogens found in these foods. This situation has become quite serious that the idea of foreign trade is being questioned. Also the proposal of implementing food safety systems in every country is being debated. .
             America is unaware of the food safety systems in other countries. It is a known fact that some of the overseas countries that the USA is trading with have not implemented a food safety system and they do not plan on doing so. Due to this fact, Americans are curious as to whether other countries are actually investigating food products that are exported from their country. It is obvious that the reason why many Americans are diagnosed with food poisoning is due to the fact that the food is not properly inspected or even inspected at all. According to the article, the Department of Agriculture has the power over imported meat and poultry. The power is called equivalency which requires a country that exports food to have a food safety system equal to that of the United States. "But nothing has happened on that front __ not by executive order, not by legislation". This basically means that none of the foreign countries are following the equivalency policy. The effect of this is hazardous because "The Centers for Disease and Prevention has confirmed thousands of cases of people sickened by pathogens by fruits and vegetables imported from abroad in recent years". These diseases are presumed to be caused by polluted water used to irrigate fields, poor sanitary practices at warehouses, and a lack of regulation by ineffective governments or other factors.
