Vietnam
The goal of the United States was to keep communism contained. By doing this, they used many different types of tactics that persuaded countries to fight communism in different ways. The United States did not use any of these tactics in aiding South Vietnam until it was too late. The United States dug them selves into a hole they could not get out of; they had made too many mistakes, and due to their negligence, the fall of South Vietnam was inevitable. The United States sent in youthful, inexperienced troops, and they fought a war for themselves--for democracy--not for the people of South Vietnam. By placing Diem in power after the French were out, the United States caused many of the problems they had to solve during the war. Diem was very corrupt while the United States still backed him. All of the aid the U.S had given South Korea never got to the people. Diem kept most of the money for himself and his brother in law. We were so upset by their actions, that we set up covert operations and assassinated both of them. Many people did not agree with the way we supported the Diem government. John Kerry a representative from Vietnam War veterans said, “We saw first hand how monies from American taxes were used for a corrupt dictatorial regime.”(Kerry) If the United States would have put in a good leader that was not corrupt this would have prevented the fall of South Vietnam. Once the Diem government fell, chaos broke lose and the Vietcong were created. The Vietcong that lived in South Vietnam were a major cause of the fall of South Vietnam to the North. licopters strafing them and bombs with napalm burning their villages and tearing their country apart.”(Kerry) If the United States would have stayed focused and just concentrated on protecting the people of South Vietnam rather then protecting the free countries then they would have been able to stop the collapse
