We deface and change the environment as we see fit. People today no longer consider what effect their actions will have on the natural world, but rather, a state of apathy and greed has grown to the point where money is societies’ number one motivation. Every day, forests are cut down, and meadows and wetlands are filled in to make room for profitable structures.

However it is not the small population that suffers. This reckless abandon for the ecosystem that we inhabit will eventually affect the entire world. The end result of this lack of respect for nature is the mutilation of the environment, which will inevitably result in our self-destruction. People generally have lost their respect along with the sense of connection one may share towards the environment. It is society who disregards nature, and does not acknowledge the cries to save it. As humans, we live in the environment, but we displace ourselves from this mindset, and build our own urban ecosystems. Natural destruction is inevitable even though we try to avoid or prevent it as much as possible. However, human society is drawing us closer to destruction. As we pollute, tear down and deconstruct nature, we are destroying our ozone, our waters, oxygen, and fellow mammals. We have no regard for where we live, and therefore have no regard to ourselves.

As we draw this essay to a close, the previous points help to illustrate a blatantly growing concern in the world today. It remains, however, explainable only after great difficulty. Why would humanity choose to destroy its surroundings? Do we as humans have a natural appetite for destruction? Will this ruthlessness destroy humanity in the process? What
