Elaborative rehearsal is much more effective for transferring information from short-term to long-term memory. This is shown in that elaborative rehearsal involves more in-depth thought and therefore is put into long- term memory. When using maintenance rehearsal information is not processed in-depth, and therefore the information acquired using maintenance rehearsal will not be placed into long-term memory.
