A comparative essay on Esteban Trueba and Santiago Nasar
Title: A comparative essay on Esteban Trueba and Santiago Nasar Esteban and Santiago Nasar were very unique characters. There was something in both of them that made them seem alike. Wealth and fame were two very important themes in these characters. They both had a very similar kind of lifestyle. Wealth and power made them different from the society they were living in. Usually when someone is wealthy and powerful, they are seen differently from the rest of the society, especially if the one looking is middle class or poor. There were a lot of similarities between them, their culture , fame, and their desire for women. This essay will be a comparative analysis between Esteban Trueba and Santiago Nasar. The novel “The House of The Spirits” shows esteban as a poor young man struggling to make money through mining early in his life. After Rosa dies, Esteban throws himself into restoring his family farm, Tres Marias. Esteban Trueba is a very harsh and uncaring person. In the “The House of the Spirits”, Esteban is seen as a devil in human form. All Esteban thinks of is himself and nothing else. He is very abusive and is driven by sex. The way he treated people is similar to how people treat dogs. He didn’t care much about anybody else. It was seen throughout the novel; the rape of Pancha, all the bastard kids running around and not even knowing which kid was his. Santiago Nasar remains a mystery throughout much of the novel “Chronicle of A Death Foretold.” We are told that he was a child of marriage of convenience and that he is open hearted. His appreciation of valor, prudence, firearms, and falconry, comes from his father, who is no longer alive. We also know that Santiago, had he lived longer, probably would have seduced Divina Flor, just as his father seduced her mother, Victoria Guzman. The narrator gives us somewhat random, incomplete information with which to piece Santiago together. The tone and imagery in both thes
