The year is 1940 and my family and I have decided to go west, into the Oregon Country. We’ve sold our land and packed our luggage, everything is ready to go. My wife had earlier booked us on a steamer, which was bound for St. Joseph. While in St. Joseph we will buy our necessities for the journey. Things we will need to make a successful journey are a wagon, some draft animals, clothing, food and camping supplies. After we have everything set, we will then leave St. Joseph and let the expedition begin.
It was decided that I would drive the wagon to the Oregon Country, while my wife and kids walked with the draft animals. They didn’t mind the walk too much because we often took little breaks for them to rest up if they were tired. We had joined a party of what were three families already, us making the fourth. This would provide us with greater protection from Indians and dangers o
The reason I chose to be the pioneer who had just recently traveled to Oregon is because I wanted to learn more about the Oregon Trail and Oregon Country. I found a lot of information when researching and learned about the hardships of the trail. An interesting fact that I found was that land was given away free to farming families that got there first to claim it. I truly learned a lot from this assignment and now know what life is like on the Oregon Trail and being a resident of the Oregon Country.
f the journey. The party had informed us of rules and regulations in which would have to abide by. My family and I all agreed to these terms and we continued on.
