Bayardo san roman in Chronicle of a death foretold
“Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia MarquezIn life there are certain people that you know you shouldn’t like but this isn’t always the case. In the novel “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez one of the main characters – Bayardo San Roman – is typically a non-hero whom people shouldn’t like but I like him, as he is romantic. One of the reasons that show that Bayardo isn’t typically heroic is that he is pathetic. He decides to go and look for a bride – to do this he goes to lots of different towns “I’ve been going from town to town looking for someone to marry” this is proof that he’s pathetic because he should have either stayed in his hometown or settled in another and got a job. He should realise that life doesn’t revolve around love and that he would probably find it if he settled down. I don’t think this is typically heroic as a hero doesn’t search frantically for someone to love. Another thing that shows Bayardo not to be typically heroic is that he is cruel. After going from town to town he finally meets Angela Vicario and falls “in love” with her. He gets married to her and on their wedding night makes love to her for the first time
One reason why I like Bayardo is that he is romantic. After travelling from town to town he gets to the town in which Angela lives and he is sitting on one side of the square and Angela is at the other. He sees her and falls in love with her he is going to sleep and he says, “When I wake up, remind me I’m going to marry her.” Although this is not something someone who is typically heroic would do – it is a little arrogant – It makes me like Bayardo as it shows he cares for others as well as himself. The last reason that makes me like Bayardo is that he is religious. This makes him seem more humble as he has belief in God and doesn’t think himself as the main person in the world. When he was planning his wedding to Angela he hears that the bishop could marry him and he likes the idea “he tried to hold off the wedding for a day when the bishop’s visit was announced so he could marry them” This shows that he has great respect for the bishop as he is a man high up in the church community. This makes him seem non typically heroic because hero’s usually don’t need anyone else except themselves but I think this makes me like Bayardo more than I would if he was heroic because it shows he is more humble than he would otherwise have people believe and that he has respect for others – the bishop. and realises she is not a virgin. “The man who gave back his bride” shows that he took Angela back t
