Jon Locke

Throughout U.S. history there have been numerous important people that helped guide and shape this country to what it is today. Three people that didn't take place in the forming of the constitution but influenced it greatly from there beliefs are Thomas Hobbes, Baron de Montesquieu and John Locke. The views of human nature and there form of governments are what influenced many American historical figures construct our government today.

Born in London in 1588 Thomas Hobbes was a well educated man that went on to college which wasn't common for his time period. Hobbes believed that all people were corrupt and couldn't be trusted to govern themselves. He felt that all people are selfish and will do whatever it takes to pull them selves ahead. He felt that democracy was definite to fail for this reason. Hobbes stated that


a monarchy was best. Although he felt that a democracy would never work, he still believed there were problems that needed to beexpressed. For this he felt that there should be a group of representatives sent to talk to the king to discuss views and help to prevent cruelness toward the people. His views are present in the form of government that we have today in America with the House of Representatives, which is where an elected group states there views in representing the people.

John Locke born in England in 1632 was also a highly educated man for his time period attending Oxford University in England. Locke felt that all people had certain undeniable rights that couldn't be taken away such as freedom of religion and the right to life, freedom and property.
