Music serves as tool of knowledge for today’s society especially for the youth. There are many ballads today that serve this purpose as well as change a person’s thought process. That ballad for me is “Without You”, by Alicia Keys. Alicia Keys is one of a few artists that uses the origins of 70s R&B to produce many ear-clamping ballads. In the song “Without You”, Alicia Keys presents material possessions as an antagonist (that contends with or opposes another one that contends with or opposes another), the listener gains a enlightenment sense of view about things through her close detail and love of expressing different situations. “Without You” is a ballad that can change your aspect on life.
The ballad begins with a soft piano melody. This puts me into a zone for enlightenment. Alicia Keys begins the verse with the phrase “

Thanks to this ballad, I now question my normal behavior habits and began seeing the inner beauty of woman more than the outer beauty. There is so much to life and so much to explore. Alicia Keys is a key clog in the reprocess of revolutionizing modern R&B music for today’s society.
The ballad also depicts material possession as an antagonist to the two protagonists love and life. Alicia Keys sings “Hand me the world on a silver platter and what would it be ?” Most people that have reach the top had to sacrifice friendships and even love one to gain there position. The ballad is asking “Was it worth it?” There are more important things in life than a fitted hat according to this ballad
