Hamlet

Character is destiny.” To what extent does this statement explain hamlets faith

Each person is the master of his life, and his character is the sculptor of his destiny. Destiny, according to the dictionary, means predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency. It is thus the destiny which decides our fate and it is our character which decides our destiny. In this tragedy we see that it is Hamlet’s character which decided his destiny. The downfall of Hamlet which ultimately leads to his death is due to his own character.

Hamlet is a man of thought . “To be, or not to be, that is the question” (3,I,56) is one of Hamlet’s most famous soliloquies and it clearly tells us about Hamlet’s character. It tells us that he is constantly in deep thought, analyzing and examining every aspect of his situation over and over again. But it is this deep thought that constantly excuses and postpones Hamlet from his actions. This also produces doubt in Hamlet’s mind which is then followed by constant inactions and hesitations which is seen through the entire play. thus we see that Hamlet acts only according to his thoughts which ultimately leads to his downfall
