Granville Hall was born February 1, 1844, on his grandfather’s farm in the small town of Ashfield, Massachusetts. After leaving the seminary he went to, Hall got a job at Antioch College teaching English and later switched to philosophy. Later, in 1876, he enrolled at Harvard and received the first doctorate for psychology ever given in the U.S. In 1884, Granville opened a laboratory at John Hopkins University, which was said to be the first psychological labora
