Some important people during the 1990s would be Lech Walesa, Nelson Mandela, Rodney King, Lorena Bobbit, O.J. Simpson, Yitzhak Rabin, Princess Diana, Tiger Woods, President Clinton, and JFK Jr. All of these people had their own affect on American life.

1990- Lech Walesa became the first president of Poland; he was leader of the Solidarity movement that led the Polis

1991- President Bush sends troops to the Persian Gulf in operation Desert Storm to free Kuwait. The war lasted only 42 days. The Persian Gulf War is won by The U.S. and the U.N.

1991- Nelson Mandela is elected president of South Africa. In 1993 he received the Nobel Peace prize and shared it with FW deKlerk, whom was South Africa’s last white president. Mandela was in prison for twenty-seven years for advocating acts of violence against the government. He spent his years at the maximum-security Robben Island prison. After he was released was when he was elected as president.

Unless they make the production of CD burners illegal, or make it illegal to use a CD burner to copy music. 1999- JFK Jr. is killed in a plane crash. This incident was very controversial because people were constantly bringing up different ways of avoiding what happened.

1999- The U.S. turns over the Panama Canal to Panama as voted by the U.S. Senate in 1978. Under the terms of the 1977 Panama Canal Treaty, the U.S. must evacuate its troops from Panama by December 31, 1999.
