All new bomb-detecting equipment is being installed in our four-hundred and twenty-nine airports as we speak. They must do this because of the recent act that was passed as of November 19, 2002. This act that was just mentioned is the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA). As for bomb detectors, only one-hundred and sixty-one have been installed and two- thousand two- hundred are needed. The United States is working hard to secure our local airports so that flying will be much safer. Besides the bomb detectors, airports are getting bomb-sniffing dogs to do some of the work. These dogs are the ones that the police use today. Do not forget about the old-fashioned manual searches, because they are still in place, along with the regular hand-held scanners (Janofsky).
Airport security is a process that affects the lives of people today. Airport security to me is very important. If they had not improved airport security after 9/11 then I would always be afraid to fly on an airplane. I absolutely would not want an event like September 11th to ever happen again. I believe that President Bush is doing the right thing with the airports today. By taking these few more added precautions, extra baggage and passenger screenings was a great idea. Yes, it does kind of invade your personal belongings, but it keeps the passengers around you safe. To me being at the airport a couple of hours early is well worth it, for my safety and the safety of others.
