Beowulf tells of a great national hero—in this case, a hero named Beowulf, who flourished in the Anglo-Saxon’s ancestral home on the European mainland. His conquests are urged on by fame and accomplished with bravery and miraculous strength. Beowulf lives his life with a sole desire for his name to live on after his death. Some of the prevalent themes in Beowulf can be compared to everyday life in the present.
