Hurling

Hurling is a game similar to hockey, because it is played with a small ball and a curved wooden stick. Hurling is a common Irish game. There are certain rules you have to know before Hurling. They are:

~ Players may not lift the ball directly from the ground.

~ When in possession of the ball, a player may take no more than four steps.

~ A player may pass the ball using either the hand, or by kicking the ball to a teammate.

There are certain terms one should know about hurling before playing.

~Tackling is when a defending player may try to deprive an attacking player.

~Pulling means that no player may pull the jersey of an opposing player during the game.

~Pushing is if one player pushes an opposing player.


9) No player is to catch, trip or push from behind.

4) The ball is not to be lifted off the ground by the hand, when in play.

5) There should not be less than fourteen, or more than twenty-one players at the side.

7) The time of play shall be one hour and twenty minutes. Sides should be changed at half time.
