It was a cold, dark night when she found herself doing what she never thought she would be capable of- running away. It was on that night that she decided to run away from the problems of her past and into a more bright future. Dangerous as it would surely be, it was something that Cassandra knew she had to do. She was crossing the border and praying that she would make it out alive to the other side. Born in a part of Romania taken over by Russia, Cassandra had known communism all her life-and she wanted nothing more than to escape it. After her father was taken away from her, her 4 siblings, and her mother, she knew something had to be done so that another member of her family would not be next in line to abandon them. For fear of getting caught, the rest of the family decided to remain while Cassandra and her older sister Rafila decided to risk a couple of hours of their already tormented lives for It was anything but an easy task from the beginning.
