Biology - Reaction between yeast and Glucose solution
Investigating the reaction between yeast and a glucose solution is what has been asked of us. We have to measure the results of our reaction rates and to do this there are many ways. I had to make a choice of how to do this as certain ways of measuring the reaction had down sides. My possible ways of taking my results are as shown: -
· By attaching an airtight tube towards a beaker full of water, I could count the number of bubbles coming off the solution. A down side to this is that if the bubbles are coming out fats then it may be impossible to count them accurately and therefore my results will not be as accurate as I would want them to be.
· As shown in class by the teacher, a glass syringe with a tube attaching to where the gas is going to come off the solution coul
As you can see, my preliminary results are good enough torove that my method of taking the results were accurate enough as my results are more or less evenly spread which will be visualised better on a graph.
The method that I will use is the method of counting bubbles. It is a quick, cheap and easy method to do and at the same time reasonably accurate.
In my experiment I will test the reactions of an even mixture of a glucose solution and yeast solution and heat it at different temperatures and count the number of bubbles in a minute period.
I will be keeping the total volume at 5oml and be using 25ml of yeast and 25ml of glucose. I will use these concentrations throughout my whole experiment and use a new solution after each experiment. I will take 2 readings of each t
