Life on earth at the time of Ender is much different from now. It is more controlled, stricter. People don’t have as many freedoms, as much privacy as we do today. The government was into everybody's business; nobody was safe from his or her watchful eye. Yet, some things were the same. There was still sibling rivalry, Kids still were bullied at school, kids still played games, and parents still worked.

In 20 families only had two kids, it was very rare to have a third. You actually had to get permission or a license to have a third child. Well ender was a third. A very rare thing. Kids then, as they are today are cruel and mean to anything remotely different from the norm. Therefore, ender was always being picked on or taunted by other kids, even his brother. The government wanted the Wiggin's to have a third child because they wanted to use them in their operation against the buggers. His parents always knew that Ender probley wasn't going to be taken away when he was five or six so they never allowed themselves to get close to him. It is necessary for Graff 2 isolate ender from the other boys. By doing this, Graff is making it so ender HAS to do everything by himself. If ender had friends and got along with the other boys, he would have somebody to rely on, to do things when he him self cant. There by isolating ender, graff teaches ender not to rely on anybody, and makes it so ender has to learn to do everything.
