The Revolution of 1905 was the starting point for this period of revolution in Russia’s history. During this time Russia was involved in the Russia-Japan War and military disasters along with years of oppression caused many problems within Russia. This discontent ended in the killing spree of Bloody Sunday where the army fired on many civilians. In result, the Duma was created after the Revolution of 1905, but had no real power.

Together Lenin and the Bolsheviks promised “Peace, Land, and Bread” to the Russian people since the Duma was obviously not addressing the problems in Russia, In November of that year squads of Red Guards joined many sailors from the Russian fleet in attacks against the provisional government. In a matter of days, Lenin’s forces had overthrown the provisional government. And, also in a matter of a short time the Bolsheviks had seized power in most of Russia. The Bolsheviks had ended private ownership of land and distributed to peasants. Workers were given control of the factories and mines. Millions of Russians had thought that they had finally won control of their lives. But, the Bolsheviks, who were renamed the Communists, would soon become their new masters.
